As it was stipulated in the original standard in 1933 that a white coat was a disqualifying fault, white GSDs have almost completely disappeared from the European continent. It is only thanks to the fact that they continued to be bred independently in USA and Canada that white shepherds have survived. Nowadays this is a registered separate breed, and very beautiful one. Thanks to the efforts of the devoted breeders it has gradually developed as a breed. Together with the standard for the usual GSD there is a standard for the white variety.
