German Shepherds Breeders - Description
German Shepherds have flexible and muscular bodies. The length of the body exceeds the height at the withers, the proportion being approximately 117 to 110%. The chest is deep and roomy, not too wide, featuring a balanced, neither barrel-shaped nor too flat, rib cage.
Weight: males - 30-40 kg; females - 22-32 kg
Height: males - 60-65 cm; females - 55-60 cm
The fore-and the hindquarters are strong and muscular, determined by the German Shepherd's working dog status. The gait is smooth and effortless. A specific criss-cross pattern of the movements of fore- and hind legs provides for the lightness and the ease of the gait. The right hind leg works in unison with the left foreleg, which allows the dog to move like a well-lubricated machine.
The densely coated tail should reach at least the hock joints or lower, but not the complete length of the hind legs. Coat is coarse, straight, lying close to the body. It is shorter on the head, the front of the legs and toes.
The head of a German Shepherd is in proportion to the body, the length not exceeding 40% of the height at the withers. The head is wedge-shaped, tapering toward the nose. A moderately arched forehead, as viewed from behind, should not have a furrow in the middle of it. Eyes are almond-shaped and brown.
The bridge of the nose is straight, and the lips are tight and dark. Dentition must be complete (42 teeth), and there should not be wide gaps or missing teeth. Jaws should close in a scissors bite.
Ears are high, wide at the base and firm. They should not be hanging or cropped because this is a fault. Ear position needs to be in a face-forward position while in a calm state or drawn back while on the run, as do many dog species.
German Shepherds Breeders - Temperament
These dogs are bred and trained to be hard workers and service dogs. They are extremely loyal and faithful toward their owners, and are ready to face all troubles and grieve with them. They are naturally strong, intelligent, protective, courageous and kind-hearted. German Shepherds are often wary of strangers and other dogs and lunge for protection should they notice the slightest threat to their owners.
