German Shepherd Ears

According to the AKC breed standard, these dogs should be longer than tall, with an ideal proportion as 10 to 8 ½. Actually, the body of a purebred dog is not long, but well developed withers and shoulders add to the body length. The head of a high quality dog should be noble, cleanly chiseled, but not too fine. The forehead should be moderately arched; the muzzle is long, with the topline parallel to the topline of the skull. These dogs have almond shaped dark eyes. The jaws of these dogs are strongly developed.

The first dog of this breed registered with the AKC was Queen of Switzerland, registered in 1908. Only the best representatives of the breed were chosen for breeding. The pups had to be rather strong, healthy, have good character, be neither aggressive nor shy. To grow a dog that will be a real GSD is not easy. You need to have a strong character, as these dogs tend to be dominating and may not obey, if you cannot show who the boss is. The dog needs a good discipline since early age.
